Marx made two laned racetrack sets from the 1930's until the late 60's. They first had beautiful tin track but were sold with plastic track after World War II. This early postwar set was sold with two clockwork trains rather than cars. The trains were packaged in their own separate boxes within the larger set box.


The plastic train is harder to find than the tin train although the tin train commands more money. The colorful plastic set can be found molded in all the colors shown in this set. I don't believe the trains were ever sold as monochrome sets.



The metal train is shown here in it's beautiful display box. I am sure these sets were sold separately as well.
